I hope that you are only having maintenance issues and can avoid an engine swap.

If not tho, I think you are overestimating the cost for diesels and underestimating the cost for gas.

Just my $.02 :)

Well I did guess a bit comparing to diesel engines I have bought, mostly Cummins, but I got a price about 10 years ago on rebuilding a Hino Marine engine and the quote then to rebuild was $12,000 each.

The gas engines I got prices from places like Cross town engines in Toronto.

Here is a source for 4BTA Cummins for $14K: www.oceanmarineengines.com/index.php/cummins

The next time you need a Hino rebuilt, Island Automotive in Nanaimo will do it for $6,000.

I'm only sayin',it's worth checking out.

The problem in Ontario is lack of sources of everything marine including good shops!

I ran the boat out today after doing the plugs and the starboard engine is excellent but the port engine will not rev above 3500. No misses. I have to remove all the plugs in the port engine again and do a compression check. It is either valves or damper plate problems so the compression check should finalize the troubleshooting.

Compressor ok so the transmission comes out next week. It is most likely the damper plate. Went through this on the starboard engine in 2007. Same symptoms!
