Strange Issue was created by k-townguy
While cruising on the rideau canal this week i encountered a strange issue. Cruising at 4000 rpm, 22 mph, oil pressure at 65 psi, 13.6-13.8 V, and 185 F. On plane going across the lake my boat just quit. Engine goes dead, gauges all flat line like the key is off, but it is on. This happened more than once with no real warning, happens at different times but not frequently. Then tonight after backing into my slip at the marina, i jump off the boat to tie off and leave engine running for a minute or two to cool down, and same thing happens, engine quits and all gauges flat line. After this happens i am able to re-start without any issues. Any ideas i am completely baffled.

My guess is electrical.

Also, I think you are running hot and under (over?) propped.

4200 - 4400 rpm should get you 22 knots. Your temperature should be 180 or less.

IMHO Of course.

It's probably just taking a rest to cool down.

I was thinking maybe a bad ignition switch, since everything dies like it would if you went key off. All connections are clean and tight. 185 * is what it has ran at since i got the boat, but I am going to be replacing some stuff this winter and the t-stat and water neck are on the list. As for propping, not sure but i can hit max rpm which is 4800 as per factory specs. I cruise at 4000-4400.

Ignition switch would be a good place to start.

You might also look at the connections on your "kill switch".

Good luck with this. Electrical issues can be quite elusive.

Your temp gauge might be reading high. I have this problem on my 32'. (180(reading) = 160(actual)).
